Waalsprong/ Bergerden pumping stations
De Waalsprong sewerage pumping station and Bergerden sewerage pumping station are part of essential water management infrastructure and are designed with attention to their surroundings as artistic elements in the landscape.
The WAALSPRONG is located along the Betuwe railway line and is designed to be visible from a long distance away, mainly because of the contrast between the rough anthracite-coloured main volume with vertical waves and the shiny, smooth facades of the other volumes.
BERGERDEN By contrast, it is constructed entirely of glass building blocks. This transparent design refers to the nearby greenhouse area and reinforces the feeling that the building is an extension of the surrounding greenhouse structures. This makes the building look almost like a glass sculpture in the landscape, contributing to its integration into the open polder landscape.
