Marquis International
The Markies, a mobile and fold-out caravan, has received significant international recognition since its creation. Designed in 1986, it won the public's choice award at the prestigious Design Prize Rotterdam in 1996. Since then, it has made an impressive journey, with numerous exhibitions both domestically and abroad.
VITRA. In 2002, it was showcased at the Vitra Museum in Weil am Rhein, Germany, during the Vitra exhibition Living in Motion. KORTRIJK EN HASSELT. as part of the exhibition. Temporary Stay (2004) at the Broelmuseum in Kortrijk and later in 2005 at the Z33 Art Centre in Hasselt. SEOUL. In 2006, it was even transported to Seoul, South Korea, on a container ship for the exhibition Mobility at the Hangaram Museum. An impressive logistical operation given the distance and the size of the object. PARIJS. The Markies was also used for an important occasion in 2015: during the Environment Summit in Paris, it stood along the banks of the Seine as part of City Camping. Prime Minister Mark Rutte even used the iconic caravan for a speech during the summit, highlighting the symbolic value of the Markies as a sustainable and mobile dwelling. GENEVE. Recently, in 2022, the work was displayed at Lake Geneva during the exhibition Openhouse, along with other works such as the Futuro by M atti Suuronen and Drop Hammer House by Joep van Lieshout.
